Summer Show 2023
We are pleased to confirm that we had a very successful show again this year with plenty of entries and exhibits especially considering the vagaries of the weather this year. In the table below we show the winners of this year's trophies, well done to them all!

The story behind our Trophy cups
DALBY CUP
This Cup is in memory of Rev DALBY who was a committee member for quite a few years, in various roles. It was bought in 1984, and awarded in 1985 for pot plants and was first won by Mrs.N.Needham.
85 CUP
Purchased for Root Vegetables classes, bought in 1984 and awarded in 1985 to Mr.G.L.Green.
ASSOCIATION WINE SHIELD
It was decided to purchase this shield for the wine classes, which had just been added to the show. Purchased in 1980 and awarded in 1981, the winner being Mrs.S.Kingston.
ASSOCIATION FRUIT SHIELD
The Association decided in October 1981 to have this new Shield just for the fruit class, and was won in 1982 by Mr.D.George.
ASSOCIATION FRUIT BOWL
At a committee meeting on the 17th September 1954 it was agreed to purchase this award at a cost of £5.7.6 ( £5.38 ) In 1955 Mrs.M.Knott was the first winner for her cookery and preserving.
NETTLEHAM CUP
This Cup was originally awarded for the best kept garden, and cost between £5-6 in 1962. In 1965 it was awarded for the most points in group 1. A Mr.E.Metheringham must have had a beautiful garden in 1962 as he was awarded the cup.
JUBILEE CUP
Really speaks for its self, it was purchased in 1977 for the Queen’s Silver Jubilee. It was first awarded in 1978 and was won by Mrs.N.L.Donner for floral art.
BROOK CUP
The only information we can find about this Cup is that it originally belonged to the Parish Council, who used to award it in the village for horticulture, but thought it would be better for the Gardeners’ Association to have it to award a person with the most points in the whole Annual Show. It is called the Brook Cup after Mr Brook who gave it to the Parish Council. It was first awarded in 1948 to A.V.Kerrison.
CORONATION CUP
The cost of this Cup was £2.12.6 ( £2.62 ) and was first awarded in September 1953 to Mr.D.George, who was one of the founder members of Nettleham Gardeners’ Association back in 1951.
ASSOCIATION ROSE BOWL
This was a new award purchased by Nettleham Gardeners’ Association in 1954 and was jointly won by Mr.Fletcher and Mr.D.George in the Chrysanthemum class, no price was mentioned but N.G.A had the princely sum of £21.18.11 ( £21.95 ) in the bank!
A.E.POTTER CUP
This Cup was donated by Mrs.Potter in memory of her husband, who was a keen onion grower. It is presented for the heaviest onion, first presented in 1989 to Mr.J.Knott.
PRINCESS DIANA CUP
This Cup was purchased in 2000, originally we had a Lyndsey Cup which was replaced with the Novice Cup, dates unknown, then it became the Novice Cup then the Junior Challenge Cup, obviously to encourage younger people to enter the show. It was rst awarded in 2000 to Carolyn Myers in the children’s section.
THE GEOFF CLARKE MEMORIAL CUP
This Cup was given by Mrs.J.Clarke in memory of her husband Geoff, he was a stalwart committee member for many years. It was first awarded in 2001 for the Art class and won by Mr.R.Person.
THE PALMER CUP
The family of the late Joy and Herbert Palmer wished to have a trophy named after their parents. Herbertalong with his wife Joy were members of Nettleham Gardeners’ Association for many years in various roles, President, Show secretary and treasurer. The cup was purchased by the family and is awarded for the handicraft group at the annual show. First won by Mr.R.Wyborn in 2005.
THE HIPGRAVE SHIELD
This was offered in 2007 by Mr and Mrs. HIPGRAVE to be awarded for the most points in the children’s classes. First awarded in 2008 to Sophie Hopkins.
NETTLEHAM NEWS TROPHY
This was given by Nettleham News for the best exhibit in the whole show. Last awarded in 2016. This has now been replaced by the Nigel Kingston Trophy from 2017 and awarded to Mrs.B.Hutchin
